I will soon start training for the New Year City Marathon, my last marathon of the year. Due to security concerns, we are not allowed to wear backpack hydration packs for the race. As I start to prep my race training calendar, this opportunity to test the SPI H2O Venture Series (https://spibelt.com/) hydration belt was right on time for my pre-training equipment roundup. I have used hydration belts in the past and each one has its pros and cons. So how does the SPIbelt hold up?
The product
The SPIbelt has a thick adjustable belt that clamps securely around your waist. The belt has a pouch that can hold keys, a phone, and money. It also has two holders for gels. A removable bib holder is included to attach your race bib to the belt. The H2O Venture Series also includes two 8 oz water bottles that attaches to the belt.
My experience
The fit
I like the thick waist strap because the belt does not move while you are running. My previous hydration belts would move during my runs and I would have to constantly adjust them. I have enough to worry about during running and nonfunctional gear is not on my list.
The pouch
The pouch was large enough to hold my Samsung Galaxy S6 with the case, a key, and lip gloss. Without my phone case, the pouch can hold a few more items. Since these are the items I usually carry, the pouch was sufficient for my needs.
Hydration
I used the hydration bottles during my weekly runs. The bottles are light weight and they don’t leak. There must be a sweet spot for the bottles, because my bottle often detached from the belt. This was my only issue with the belt.
The Verdict
Overall I really liked the SPIbelt and I will use it for the NYC Marathon training and the race. I am beyond excited about the race and thankful that I found a hydration product for this next adventure.
