Summer in Georgia has intense UV radiation. The sun is up early in the morning and still beaming late into the evening. One thing I need to improve upon in my running life is wearing shades to protect my eyes from UV damage. Since I run early in the mornings in the summer and barely make it out of the bed, my sunglasses rarely make it to the run. Knockaround Shades (https://knockaround.com/) were a welcomed addition to my summer running gear. I purposely placed them by my keys so I could grab them before I hit the pavement.
Knockarounds are affordable customizable sunglasses that has polarized lens that blocks UV radiation. I tested the Neptune/Lilac Fast Lanes Sport shades. The shades have rubberized nose pads that fit comfortable on your face. The nose pads are also easy to clean compared to normal glasses. I wore the shades for my weekly half marathon training runs.
My thoughts?
The shades are lightweight and had a great fit. When I ran in them they stayed put I didn't have any issues with being able to see where I was running. They came in handy when I ran directly in sunlight. I will admit it was difficult at times when the humidity was high (sometimes 100%) and the glasses fogged up. Running with high humidity is tough with and without glasses, so it wasn't a deal breaker.
Overall I like my Knockaround shades and plan to continue to wear them on runs. I need to to protect my eyes from UV radiation even as summer winds down. Thankfully, the humidity should reduce as we move into fall so wearing them will be more comfortable.
